One of the area’s theater companies is seeking a new artistic director.

Live Arts announced on Friday that Susan E. Evans left the position effective August 1. Evans began her tenure in June 2021.

“For the past four years, Susan has poured her talent, vision, and heart into guiding Live Arts through the uncertainties of the post-pandemic world,” reads an information release sent out August 15. “Her leadership helped Live Arts weather one of the most challenging chapters in its history, and for that, the staff, board, and volunteers are profoundly grateful.”

Live Arts will conduct listening sessions and release surveys to get feedback on the next person to fill the role.

Executive Director Lisa Capraro said the group is in transition but an opportunity to look forward.

“We are ensuring the stability and forward momentum of the organization by appointing an interim artistic director for the short term,” Capraro is quoted in the release. “We will announce that appointment as soon as that person is in place.”

Live Arts dates back to 1989 when it operated out of the Old Michie Building on East Market Street. The new season begins on October 3 with the debut of Airline Highway directed by Jude Hansen.

The new season also brings a new enticement to get people into seats. Live Arts is launching something called the 434 Initiative where tickets will be sold to people under 2years of age.
