On August 1, 2026, Albemarle County’s Office of Housing took out a public notice in the Charlottesville Daily Progress announcing the opening of waiting lists on August 17 for vouchers for various affordable housing sites.
On July 22, Albemarle County sent out an email asking people to sign up for an online account if they want to make an application.
“The Albemarle County Office of Housing (ACOH) encourages anyone interested in the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program to create a Housing Portal account,” reads an email that takes you to a more detailed website.
The public notice in the newspaper of public record has more details about those sites.
- Scottsville School Apartments has one bedroom apartments for people 55 and older. There are a hundred spots on the waiting list.
- Treesdale on Rio Road East has three bedroom apartments. There are 200 spots on the waiting list.
- Vista29 is for “individuals experiencing homelessness as referred by as [Blue Ridge Area Coalition for the Homeless].” There is no limit on this waiting list. This is for an 80 unit “permanent supportive housing” under construction by Support Works Housing, the same entity that runs the Crossings in downtown Charlottesville.
The public notice goes to all caps to point out something really important.
“NO PAPER APPLICATIONS WILL BE PROVIDED OR ACCEPTED.”
A provision has been made for those who need help.
“If you need assistance applying, please visit during our walk-in time: Tuesday, August 18th 10:00AM 4:00PM in meeting room A at 1600 5th, Charlottesville, VA 22902 (5th Street County Office Building)”
The notice online has more details about the number of positions that Albemarle is supporting and who will take those spaces.
“These vouchers are dedicated to people experiencing homelessness as verified through the Blue Ridge Area Coalition for the Homeless (BRACH) Coordinated Entry System” reads the public notice. “Only people verified as experiencing homelessness through this process will be eligible to remain on the waiting list for these vouchers.”
