Much of the growth currently underway and completed in recent years at the University of Virginia has been directed by a strategic plan adopted by the Board of Visitors in August 2019.
In July of 2026, the website for that plan now lists a series of accomplishments such as the establishment of the Karsh Institute of Democracy, the Paul and Diane Manning Institute of Biotechnology, and establishment of the Pipelines and Pathways program. Many of these programs have been documented in this newsletter.
Now the relatively new President Scott Beardsley has launched the process to create a new plan including the formation of a committee as reported recently in UVA Today.
A first step toward that process is the launch of a survey to get input from various stakeholders ranging from alumni to community members.
“This survey is designed to gather early community feedback on our aspirations in pursuit of our mission, how well we are meeting our mission today, and what we should prioritize looking forward,” reads the splash page.
The committee’s two co-chairs are Jennifer West, Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and R. Marc Johnson, vice president for strategic initiatives in the Office of the President.
