Last fall, fourth-grade students at all of Charlottesville’s elementary schools attended a performance of Pictures at an Exhibition, a work by 19th century Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky.
After seeing the concert by pianist Andrew Armstrong, students returned back to their classrooms and were asked to create artwork capturing their feelings and thoughts.
Some of those images will be displayed tomorrow night when Armstrong takes the stage of the MLK Performing Center for a repeat performance for the public scheduled for 7 p.m.
“The event will celebrate CCS students’ creativity and the enduring connection between music and visual art,” said Aaron Eichorst, CCS Coordinator of Fine and Performing Arts, in an information release.
The event is also a collaboration of the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival. That event was created by two Charlottesville High School students in 2000.
