There are two and a half years to go until the end of Mike Pruitt’s first term as Scottsville District member of the Albemarle Board of Supervisors.
Between now and then, the attorney is gearing up for a run for the Democratic nomination for Virginia’s Fifth Congressional District.
“Our country is at a turning point,” reads a section of his campaign website. “The gap between working people and the billionaire class is the widest it’s been in a century. Our district is hurting, and people know it, whether they feel it in their heart or in their aching back.”

Pruitt did not have an opponent in 2023 for Supervisor. According to his website, he attended Duke University on a military scholarship and entered the U.S. Navy where he served three tours of duty. He then attended the University of Virginia School of Law and since graduation has worked for a nonprofit called Housing Opportunities Made Equal of Virginia.
Pruitt is the second person to announce. Paul Riley of Crozet announced earlier this month that he would try again for the nomination. He placed third in the June 18, 2024 Democratic primary behind Gary Terry and winner Gloria Tinsley Witt. Riley is a veteran of the U.S. Army who worked for the National Ground Intelligence Center from 2010 to 2023.
