Dominion Energy is seeking permission from the State Corporation Commission to rebuild a 20-mile electricity transmission line from Gordonsville to Charlottesville. The company filed an application earlier this year, prompting the formation of at least one advocacy group to try to stop the project.
“Dominion’s proposal would nearly double average structure height while affecting homes, viewsheds, trees, construction, property, and future grid expansion,” reads the website of the Pantops Coalition.
In June, the Albemarle Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution to request a public hearing for the matter as I reported for C-Ville Weekly.
On August 28, 2026, the SCC announced one will be held on October 22, 2026 in City Council chambers.
“Persons intending to testify as public witnesses should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the hearing and register with the Commission’s bailiff,” reads an information release. “Witness statements will be limited to five minutes.”
A separate public hearing will be held on November 10 over the telephone. Written comments are accepted through November 23. A hearing with the SCC is scheduled for December 2.
