Pilachowski no longer one of Charlottesville’s Assistant City Managers

The City of Charlottesville has confirmed that one of the two assistant city managers is now vacant.

“Evan [Pilachowski] has departed the City of Charlottesville organization as of this past Friday,” wrote public engagement coordinator Caroline Rice in an email on June 3.

Pilachowski had begun working for the city in February shortly after City Manager Sam Sanders announced a reorganization of the city administration. Pilachowski oversaw Information Technology, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, and Public Utilities.

No reason was given for his departure.

A job posting on the city’s jobs board closed on May 28 and set the maximum salary of $205,000.

“Assignments may include the oversight of specific departments and responsibility for executing certain community engagement initiatives,” reads the posting. “The Assistant responds to inquiries from the City Council and the public and oversees and participates in the planning and administration of major projects and programs.”

Despite the confirmation, Pilachowski’s name remains in the directory of the City Manager’s office on the city website as of June 16. His LinkedIn profile states he left the city in May.
