There are just under 800 bedrooms under construction on Ivy Road at the University of Virginia for undergraduate students with another several hundred expected to eventually be built on Emmet Street.

There are also 216 apartments being built at the Darden School of Business for students with a total of 325 bedrooms. The project got underway in October 2024 and recently passed a significant step in the process.

The Darden Report reports that the tallest beam in the two-building complex has now been put in place, a milestone known as “topping out.”

When they open in the fall of 2027, the residential units will be the first housing options to be made available at Darden and are being built to make the school more attractive to potential students. Giving an option to live on-grounds means that residents will not enter the area’s housing market.

“Our distinctive advantage has always been transformational learning in a close-knit community,” said Interim Dean Michael Lenox in the article. “If we want to sustain that advantage — and build on it — we have to invest in the conditions that make it possible.”

So far the project has not been named but sponsorship opportunities are available according to the article.
