When the University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors met on February 20, 2026, there was no live-stream of the meeting held in the Rotunda’s North Oval Room. But there was an information release announcing new leadership for a governing body with many new members following five resignations in January.
“In a special meeting Friday, the University of Virginia Board of Visitors unanimously elected Carlos M. Brown and Victoria D. Harker to assume the positions of rector and vice rector, respectively, effective immediately,” reads a post on UVA Today.
Brown is one of ten people appointed by Governor Abigail Spanberger in January shortly after being sworn into office. Brown had been previously appointed to the BOV in 2021 with a term that expired at the end of June 2025. He is executive vice president, chief administrative and projects officer, and corporate secretary of Dominion Energy as you can read in his bio.
Harker has also previously served a term on the BOV having been appointed by former Governor Bob McDonnell in 2012. She is also a member of the UVA Health System Board and has been for 14 years.
The BOV will next meet in early March.
