CRHA Board adopts resolution seeking retention of Sales as agency director

The Board of Commissioners of the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority announced the departure of Executive Director John Sales after six years in the position.

In September, the CRHA put out a request for proposals to conduct an executive search to help find a replacement. Sales agreed to stay on through December as the public learned at a joint work session with the Charlottesville City Council on September 9. Sales himself was not present.

Sales was present at the September 28 meeting when the CRHA Board voted to acquire several dozen housing units from two different property owners.

The CRHA Board met again for a work session on October 8 that consisted solely of two closed sessions with one on land disposition and another on personnel matters.

After more than an hour, the Board reconvened in open session and adopted a simple motion.

“I would like to propose a motion to pursue the retention of John Sayles as the Executive Director of CRHA,” said Chair Brigid O’Rourke.

The vote in favor was 4 to 0 with City Councilor Michael Payne abstaining from the vote.

A request for additional information from O’Rourke and Payne was not responded to by publication time. An initial email to John Sales was returned as blocked.
