Familiar face hired by Greene County to run water and sewer department

After years of planning and a divorce from the Rapidan Service Authority, Greene County is finally constructing elements of a plan to increase its water supply and upgrade the distribution system.

On October 25, the county announced new leadership for a department that had to be created when Greene took over operations from the RSA.

Greg Lunsford has been named as the new director of the Water and Sewer Department. Interim director Robert Griffith will become the director of operations, a newly created position.

“Greene County has made significant investments in its water and sewer infrastructure, and these appointments position us well for the future,” quotes an information release from County Administrator Cathy Schafrik.

Lunsford is currently the town manager of Elkton and worked for Greene County when the transition from RSA took place.

“I am excited and honored to return to Greene County and assist with the important ongoing infrastructure work initiated by County leadership,” Lunsford is quoted in the release.

Griffith is currently the supervisor of the Greene County Water Treatment Plant. He has also served as a member of the Page County Board of Supervisors.
