Albemarle’s former elections director arrested and charged with financial misconduct

Lauren Eddy abruptly resigned as Albemarle County’s General Registrar and Director of Elections on August 12. At the time, there was no explanation given and the Board of Elections has since hired Debbie Wilson as an interim director.

Today Eddy was arrested and charged with three counts of financial misconduct after an investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department.

“In August 2025, ACPD received a report of suspected financial misconduct within Albemarle County’s Office of the Registrar,” reads an information release sent out on October 9. “The investigation revealed that from January to August 2025, approximately $34,000 had been used for private purchases unrelated to county business.”

Eddy has been charged with two counts of felony embezzlement and one count of felony forgery. She was released on an unsecured bond after turning herself in today.

The investigation is ongoing.
