Albemarle County Registrar resigns

With less than three months to go before the next election, Albemarle County is without a person in charge of administering both the voter registration and the official count.

“The Electoral Board has accepted a letter of resignation from the General Registrar and Director of Elections, Lauren Eddy, with an effective date of August 12, 2025,” reads an email sent out at 3:20 p.m. on August 14.

The note states that the three-person Electoral Board is seeking to hire an acting general registrar and a general registrar to fill the position.

“The Electoral Board is committed to ensuring that all elections within Albemarle County remain free, fair, safe, and legal,” the note continues.

In Virginia, all Electoral Boards are made of three people with two appointees belonging to the political party of whoever is Governor. A request is pending for the letter of resignation.

According to the Augusta Free PressEddy filled the remaining term after the resignation of Jake Washburne on July 31, 2022. Eddy had been the deputy registrar for 15 years before taking the position.
