Contested race for Rio District seat on the Albemarle School Board

Albemarle’s School Board has seven seats including one at-large seat that represents the entire county. That’s in contrast to the Board of Supervisors which has an even six members.

Three of the seven School Board seats are up for election this year but only the Rio District seat has two candidates on the ballot.

Incumbent Leslie Pryor was appointed to the seat earlier this year to fill a vacancy created with the death of Chuck Pace last year. Her opponent, Jim Dillenbeck, had been on the ballot against Pace in the 2023 election. Both stepped forward to be among seven people who applied to the interim position.

Dillenbeck outraised Pryor in September, beginning the month with $3,204 in the campaign account. There were $5,950 contributions including three over $1,000. The campaign spent $2,805 to end the period with $6,348. (view report while you can)

Pryor had $300 in funds in her campaign account as of September 1 and raised $4,060 including $2,500 from Sonjia Smith. The campaign spent $354 and had $4,005 in the bank on September 30. (view the raw report)

Incumbent Katherine Acuff is the lone candidate in the Jack Jouett race. She began the reporting period with $1,411 and had no campaign finance activity.

Newcomer Robert Beard is the lone candidate on the ballot for the Samuel Miller District. His campaign had $4,797 on hand on September 1 and raised $325. Beard spent $1,030 and had $4,091 in the account on September 30.
