Jaunt turns 50 this year and seeks travel stories

As the Week Without Driving continues, one way people participating might get around is public transit. In addition to Charlottesville Area Transit, the region is served by Jaunt, a public service corporation that formed in 1975.

To celebrate, Jaunt is asking people to submit their stories of using the service.

“As we look back on 50 years of service, we know the most important part of Jaunt’s story is the people we serve,” said Mike Murphy, Jaunt’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our mission has always been rooted in community, care, and connection—and this anniversary is about celebrating the ways Jaunt has supported essential regional needs for mobility across generations.”

Jaunt was created as Jefferson Area United Transportation but the acronym became the official name in 1983.

Have a story from that time? Tell Jaunt at the website they’ve created.
