Lenahan leads fundraising efforts in Nelson County’s North District Race

For the first time in over forty years, someone new will represent the Nelson County’s North District on the five-member Board of Supervisors.

Tommy Harvey is not seeking another term this election after failing to attend a meeting in well over a year.

Three people are on the ballot to replace him including his wife, Diane Harvey. She is running as an independent as are Cameron Lenahan and Roy White. All three are running as independents.

All candidates in Virginia are required to file campaign finance reports including the cost of goods and services provided by other parties. So far, Lenahan leads the pack with the largest amount of contributions with $12,017.85 through September 30, 2025.

All of those contributions are considered “in-kind” and all come from AC’s Towing and Recovery of Waynesboro, the company Lenahan owns. On September 10, the company provided $463.32 for the cost of printing and $2,550 for the actual cost of a billboard. So far, Lenahan has not received any direct contributions of cash. On February 4, he provided an in-kind contribution to himself by paying $1,500 for legal services from Blue Ridge Law.

Roy White began September with a balance of $3,255 and raised an additional $827 in the latest campaign reporting period. The campaign spent $1,379 in the month including $350 for an advertisement in the Crozet Gazette. The campaign has raised a total of $6,716.68 all year and had a balance of $2,703.71 on September 30. He has a Facebook page for a campaign website.

Harvey’s campaign has only reported one in-kind contribution and that was $439 from a Maxine Small for signs. There have been no direct contributions.

Central District

In the Central district, incumbent Ernie Reed (D) faces independent Stephen Bayne on the ballot.

Bayne began the reporting period with $7,616 in his campaign account and raised $725 in September. The campaign spent $2,156 including $275 in in-kind expenses. Bayne had $5,909 on September 30.

Reed’s campaign had $11,976 on September 1 and raised $5,600 during the month. That includes three contributions over $1,000. Reed spent $2,644 in September and had a $15,156 balance on September 30.

East District and early voting turnout

Incumbent Jesse Rutherford (R) had no campaign balance in September and began and ended the month with $1,667.

As of October 20, 1,768 ballots have been cast in Nelson County, a much higher rate than in 2021. That’s according to data compiled by the Virginia Public Access Project.
