Charlottesville advertises for economic mobility position

Charlottesville City Manager Sam Sanders rearranged his administration late last month, eliminating one deputy position and creating several others.

One of those is that of “Economic Mobility Officer” and the job has been posted this week.

“The Economic Mobility Officer is a strategic, visionary professional who is a senior-level leader coordinating citywide efforts to advance economic mobility and opportunity through innovative, data-informed, and community-engaged strategies,” reads the posting on governmentjobs.com. “The position will advance economic mobility by addressing systemic barriers, fostering cross-sector collaboration, and promoting economic opportunity and accessibility.”

This position will work to implement the vision of the Council Strategic Plan Framework which calls for Charlottesville “to be a place where everyone thrives.” A specific aim for the city’s efforts are those who can be classified by the acronym ALICE, which stands for Asset-Limited, Income Constrained and Employed” as well as others who are considered to be underrepresented.

This position is a temporary one funded in partnership with the International City / County Manager’s Association, but could become permanent. The annual salary is to not exceed $100.006.40.

Earlier this month, Sanders announced the hiring of Steve King as his assistant. King’s most recent job was working for ICMA.
