Local veggie burger company calls it quits

A local company that specialized in the creation of meat-free burgers has announced on social media they will go out of business after 15 years.

“After 15 years, over a thousand stores, and millions of NoBull veggieburgers served across the country, we have made the difficult decision to close NoBull Burger,” reads a Facebook message posted on September 29.

NoBull Burger was created by Chrissane Raymond in 2011 and was initially sold at local farmers markets. No specific reason was given in the message for the company’s end but they did say they never intended to become a national food company.

“We are incredibly proud of what started as one Mom’s recipe and became a brand that reached far beyond our little corner of Virginia,” the message continues.

A request for information has been sent to the company’s owners but a reply has not come in the past two weeks.

The company’s products are no longer available for sale on the website and do not turn up on a search on Whole Foods. That company is listed as one of the national vendor and is touted as a major milestone on a timeline.

In May 2019, NoBull Burger was one of six recipients of grant funding from Mars, Incorporated under their Seeds of Change accelerator program according to an information release still posted.

“The world is changing at a rapid pace with consumer needs evolving and new approaches and technologies transforming business,” said Gary Arora, Mars SEEDS of CHANGE™ Accelerator Lead. “The SEEDS of CHANGE™ Accelerator acts as a catalyst to help forward-thinking innovators bring their purpose-driven food-focused visions to life.
