Charlottesville police detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 22-year-old man. Officers responded to a call to the 200 block of West Water Street just before 3 a.m. this morning.
“As officers responded, they were made aware of an adult male gunshot victim who had been transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center,” reads an information release sent out this morning. “The victim, Jahaanz Lamont Wilson, a 22-year-old Charlottesville resident, was pronounced deceased after he arrived at the Medical Center.”
This is the city’s first homicide of the year. The release states that Wilson is believed to have been in the Downtown Mall area for several hours before he was shot. People with information are asked to contact the Charlottesville Police Department at 434-977-4000.
Wilson is a 2020 graduate of Charlottesville High School.
