Rivanna Solid Waste Authority offering free mulch

When individuals and businesses drop brush and other vegetative material off at the Ivy Solid Waste and Recycling Center, the organic matter is converted into a useful garden supply.

“Trees, shrubs, and brush are processed and ground to create a high-quality mulch that is naturally colored and free of artificial dyes,” reads an information release sent out today.

The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority is offering 2,700 tons of mulch to the public on a first-come, first serve basis.

To get it, head out to the center at 4576 Dick Woods Road between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and follow directions from staff on where to go once you cross the scales.

“Visitors wanting small quantities are encouraged to bring their own shovels, buckets, tubs, baskets, or bags for loading,” the release continues. “Those planning to fill pickup truck beds or trailers can receive assistance from ISWRC staff, who will load the mulch using powered equipment.”

The RSWA will update their website when the mulch is gone. Click here to stay on top of it.

If you use any of it, I’d love to hear back on how you use it. Gardening is not something I’ve ever been good at, but one day I hope to be inspired.
