The four members of the Albemarle Planning Commission who were present elected Luis Carrazana as the appointed body’s chair. The Associate Architect of the University of Virginia serves as the at-large member and was vice chair in the last two years.
Samuel Miller District Representative Karen Firehock will be the vice chair. Both Firehock and Rivanna District Planning Commissioner Corey Clayborne both have the distinction as also have served on the Charlottesville Planning Commission.
Commissioners Nathan Moore and Clayborne were not present at the January 13 meeting and there is still a vacancy in the Scottsville District to fill now that Fred Missel is a member of the Board of Supervisors.
That vacancy may be filled today. Former Planning Commissioner and Scottsville District Supervisor Rick Randolph is the only applicant listed in a packet for Supervisor’s meeting.
The Planning Commission has only had one meeting so far due to the ice storm. So much has already happened this year that this is a good time to take a quick recap of that meeting. Turns out I wrote up both items!
- Greenwood Homes asked for the Planning Commission to defer a decision on a proposal to amend the original rezoning for Belvedere to add an additional 128 units. I wrote a story for this for C-Ville Weekly and lack capacity to do a version for this newsletter.
- Albemarle County planning staff briefed the Planning Commission on potential changes to the Rio / 29 Small Area Plan. This was the first of two work session and I have a brief story.
