University of Virginia Foundation buys Corner property for $4 million and 70 other Charlottesville property transactions from June 2025

Needless to say, I’m a bit behind on my summaries of property transactions in Charlottesville. Since January 2021, I’ve gone through each sale to try to better understand the structure of this community. These days I have to fit the work in when I can.

I am not a real estate agent. I am not a developer. I’m a journalist who has written about land use in this community for over two decades. I still have a lot to learn and my goal is to share it with as many people as I can.

I began tracking these records in the mid-2010’s when I was a reporter at a nonprofit news organization. I’d never really looked at transactions until I covered a rezoning in the Rose Hill neighborhood and realized I had to step up my game.

I began doing these summaries for Charlottesville Community Engagement because I wanted to see what changes might take place due to the Cville Plans Together initiative. Along the way, I’ve captured the increase in real property assessments in the city. I’m also particularly interested in when the University of Virginia Foundation purchases property because that’s one of the way we get puzzle pieces about UVA’s future.

What I don’t offer is any sort of analysis or sense of a trend. Maybe I’ll add that in the future, but as I said, I’m still learning. I share this with paid subscribers as a thank you. I depend on such subscriptions to make sure I can keep doing this work. I want to know what happens next!

And now, let’s get to the summaries!

Before you go: A major research interest for Town Crier Productions is property research in Charlottesville. While all of the information is eventually posted publicly, paid subscribers of the Charlottesville Community Engagement newsletter occasionally get an advanced notice. This edition for June 2025 was originally posted through Substack on November 1, 2025 and to this website on September 21, 2026 but then back dated.

To support the work, consider a charitable contribution through the Tiny News Collective.
