Charlottesville Police Civilian Oversight Board can once again meet quorum

In order for a government body to officially meet, enough members must be present or remotely participating in order for votes to be taken.

However, quorum has recently proved impossible for the Charlottesville Police Civilian Oversight Board.

“A quorum of the Board shall be four (4) members,” reads the December 2021 ordinance that created the body as a replacement for the Police Civilian Review Board.

For months there have only been three members after several resignations.

On October 20, Council appointed Albe LaFave and Ruairi Vaughan to terms that expire at the end of August 2026. That means there are now five members and votes can be taken at the next meeting.
