Procurement update: Coleman-Adams gets contract to build Nelson County social services building

Nelson County is moving forward with one of its major capital projects.

“The project consists of redevelopment of approximately 1.6 acres of land and building at 37 Tanbark Plaza, Lovingston, Virginia in order to construct a new Social Services office building of approximately 9,400 square feet of gross floor area,” reads a request for proposals the county put out on June 26, 2025.

The Board of Supervisors held a special meeting on July 14 to award a bid which was announced on July 15.

“The Nelson County Board of Supervisors intends to award this contract to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, Coleman-Adams Construction Inc,” reads the announcement. “The amount of the intended contract award is $5,684,799.”

  • Five companies have responded to a request for proposals to provide maintenance at the McIntire Historical Building owned by the City of Charlottesville. All five bids were over the project budget and the RFP has been canceled. The lowest bidder was Midwest Maintenance of Piqua, Ohio with $78,955 and the highest bidder was United Building Group of Manassas. (learn more)
  • Messer Landscape of Staunton has been awarded a contract to providing landscape services for the 5.93 acres on Avon Street Extended for Charlottesville Area Transit. They were the lowest bidder at $11,500. Three other firms submitted proposals with the high bid at $36,300. (learn more)
  • Charlottesville has not yet awarded a contract for a firm to deliver “a public engagement software platform that facilitates community participation in civic engagement processes via an online portal able to support the full spectrum of public participation.” Bids were due on June 17, 2025.   • Fluvanna County is seeking firms to provide paving services at six county-owned locations across the locality. Bids are due for July 28, 2025. (learn more)
