If you’ve had the strange desire to see your name in Charlottesville Community Engagement and other publications, one way to increase the odds is to volunteer on a government body.
The City of Charlottesville is taking applications for several boards and commissions through November 17.
“We have one in particular, the Planning Commission, and the unexpired term of Rory Stolzenberg which will end on August 31, 2027 2017,” said Mayor Juandiego Wade at the October 20 City Council meeting.
Stolzenberg has been on the Planning Commission for seven years and said it was time to move on. He was first appointed on October 1, 2018 and served during the Cville Plans Together initiative which saw the creation of an affordable housing plan, a new Comprehensive Plan which encouraged more density throughout the city, and a new Development Code to put that idea into practice.
In addition to the Planning Commission, there are openings on:
- Board of Zoning Appeals (two vacancies, one expiring soon)
- Charlottesville Affordable Housing Fund Committee (one vacancy, three expiring soon)
- Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority Board, (one vacancy)
- CDBG & HOME Taskforce (three vacancies, three opening soon)
- Historic Resources Committee (one vacancy, one opening soon)
- Housing Advisory Committee (one vacancy, five expiring soon)
- Human Rights Commission (two vacancies, three expiring soon)
- Local Board of Building Code Appeals (two vacancies)
- Minority Business Commission (one vacancy, one expiring soon)
- Personnel Appeals Board (one vacancy, one expiring soon)
- Piedmont Family YMCA Board of Directors (one vacancy)
- Planning Commission (one vacancy)
- Police Civilian Oversight Board (two vacancies)
- Sister Cities Commission (one vacancy)
- Social Services Advisory Board (one vacancy, one expiring soon)
- Towing Advisory Board (three vacancies)
- Tree Commission (two vacancies)
- Vendor Appeals Board (two vacancies)
- Youth Council (three vacancies)
Since the last time I did one of these stories, Charlottesville has created a new page to handle boards and commissions.
