UVA offers admission to record 10,287 first-year students

The University of Virginia is racing through its spring semester and preparations for the fall continue. This week, UVA announced the finalization of the admissions process.

“The University of Virginia made nearly 2,000 offers to applicants in its final admission round on Friday, bringing the total number of offers to first-year students to a historic high of 10,287,” reads the first line of a story published Monday on UVA Today.

That number is whittled down from an applicant pool of 82,118, another record. Around 8,600 applicants have been added to the waiting list.

People granted admission have until May 1 to decide and the story notes that UVA is aiming to enroll 3,988 students in what will be the Class of 2030. About two-thirds will be in Virginia.

The numbers are consistent with projections given to the Board of Visitor’s Academic and Student Life Committee in March 2025 by outgoing provost Ian Baucom.

Data show that first-year enrollment ranged between 3,785 and 4,020 a year between 2019 and 2024. Projections show a target of 3,970 first-years from 2025 to 2031. The actual number for 2025 is 3,986 according to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
